“Sweet Sana-oo” was written for Charles Frohman's 1904 Broadway production of the London hit The School Girl, an Edwardian-era musical comedy (tuneful, undemanding music with romantic lyrics) about a French schoolgirl named Edna May (see inset photo on the cover page).
