Curatorial Note
Kyoto's Gion festival, including footage of the construction of the floats ("yama" and 'hoko") and festivities leading up to and on the eve of the festival. Completed as a final project at the Osaka University of Arts and Kansas City Art Institute. This was originally accompanied by a soundtrack on cassette tape. The majority of the film was shot in 1976, with additional scenes from a vantage point that captured the elaborate process involved in turning the floats at the corner of a major intersection.
