American President Lines, Dinner menu. En route to Honolulu. Launched in 1931 by the Dollar Steamship Lines, The Coolidge was bought by the American President Lines in 1937 and sailed between San Francisco and Manila via Kobe and Shanghai. She evacuated US citizens from Hong Kong and other Asian locations as early as 1940 and became a troopship in June 1941, used to reinforce garrisons in the Pacific. On Dec. 19, 1941 she evacuated wounded from Hawai'i. The luxury liner retained her pre-war civilian condition until 1942, when she was assigned to the U.S. Navy. She was sunk by mines in October, 1942. 8x10"
